1970 Ford Maverick -  Mustard Yellow2 door post sedan.

What can I say about this car?  this was one of my lowest points of car ownership.  I remember going to Reedman's in Langhorne, PA.  I used to love  going there with my parents to buy cars.  So many to choose from and a test track!

Of course with my limited funds the buying experience was not quite as thrilling.  I think I picked the Maverick because it was the cheapest Reedman car on the lot.  Even back then $900 did not buy much of a car.  And most likely I over paid.

A nice stereo did help.  I do remember one moment I had with Maverick.  I was waiting for my girlfriend to get ready to go out.  Sometimes this took quite a while.  I grew bored listening to music, so I pulled a screwdriver from the glove box and opened the hood to tinker with the idle jet on the carburetor.

Maverick always did idle a bit rough and I could never figure out why.  But over the next few minutes I turned the idle mixture screw out and then in little by little until finally I felt the idle smooth out.  The secret was to move the screw sloooooly to let the mixture adjust to the new setting.  I was one with the car.  Maverick now purred like a kitten.  A very ugly kitten, but a kitten none the less.

This little experience did not turn the tide of Maverick boredom.  My girlfriend liked Falcooney 2 better.  She was so right as usual.  In fact I rarely ever am right when it comes to cars or anything else for that matter.

I do not remember when or why I decided to ditch Maverick.  It was probably running just fine.  In fact most of my cars were running fine when they left my possession.  Usually better than when I got them.  Why I change cars so often is one of the mysteries of my life.  Maybe I am a short attention span car nut.

At some point Maverick and I parted ways.  I do not even remember what I did with Maverick.  Do I still own it?  Is it out there somewhere waiting for me in vain?  I hope not.
