1990 Nissan 300ZX 2+2 - Black 2 door post sedan.

The 300ZX is the closest to exotic thing I have owned.  It is a lowly Nissan, but at that time the Japanese sporty cars like the 300ZX, Supra, and RX7 were all creeping close to the $40,000 mark and becoming unaffordable exotics.  These three were the last on a era and even the new 350ZX is a much cheaper car.

You could tell the first time you sat in it.  You felt like you were in a jet fighter cockpit and not a car.  The console and doors sort of wrapped up around you and the fabric material on the lower surfaces we not something I would have picked but somehow crafted the feeling that you were in something special.

And the car was very low and styled in a unique way that was very appealing.  So appealing in fact that more than a few time girls walking near the car had asked me for a ride.  The nerve!

My 2+2 had a 5 speed and the non-turbo 3 liter.  Of course no stock 2+2 had the twin turbos.  But the 225 horse six moved this fairly light car pretty well.

And to my surprise I loved the handling.  I did not think I cared about such things being the straight line drag motor head I was.  But man, was it fun to hit the on and off ramps at speeds I never before dreamed possible.  Was I a tweed capped sports car fanatic?  No but I could appreciate the fun they were having while I was out worrying about high horsepower V8s.

I also discovered T-Tops.  I did not take them out very much but the glass roof always gave an airy feeling that made the time in the car more pleasant.  I later would use them quite often in my future Fbodys.

Now this was Nissan and gave me no trouble but I feared that once the repair bills started, this would become a very expensive car to own.  Or was I just bored and ready to move on?  I was allowed to keep this car and sell it privately while I bought another car.  I am one lucky devil.

One of the cars I drove when selecting the ZX was a new LT1 Z28 Camaro (Fbody).  It was kind of strange but that test drive still called to me even after a few years had passed by.  After three years dealers were no longer getting over sticker so maybe it was time for me to swoop in and form a new relationship with a car with a real motor.  That would be a V8 of course.  For about a month I combed the Chevy dealer lots.  I knew what I wanted but it was hard to find.  Black was my color but for some reason I had a fixation with leather seats.  I could have ordered the exact car I wanted but that would take too long.  I remember my two top choices sitting side by side on the lot.  One a black 6 speed with chrome wheels and a cloth interior and the other a silver beauty with the standard wheels and with leather.  I was torn.  But after much serious thought and deliberation (this frustrated my salesman to no end) I chose the silver one.  So long low slung 300ZX, hello silver bullet.
